Club By-Laws
Article 1: Name
1:1 The name of the organization shall be known as Ocean State Jeepsters
Article 2: Mission Statement
2:1 Ocean State Jeepsters is organized to promote the enjoyment of Jeep brand
vehicles. Ocean State Jeepsters is a non-profit organization and will help in
the aid of creating and adjusting the laws that will advance the sport of off
roading. Most importantly, creating a fun, safe, family oriented environment for
its members.
Article 3: Mission
3:1 To promote and educate members and family on responsible off road
recreation.
3:2 To provide care for trails, and to abide by the Tread Lightly principals.
3:3 To raise money and provide for local charities chosen by Ocean State
Jeepsters members and family.
3:4 To have an active interest in state laws and regulations of off road
recreation.
3:5 To create a fun, safe environment for members and family to enjoy.
Article 4: Membership
4:1 Membership is open to any person regardless of gender, race, or religion.
4:2 Memberships will be granted to those individuals that are licensed and have
a registered Jeep brand vehicle.
4:3 Memberships will be granted upon completion of an application, acceptance of
by-laws, a signed waiver form, and club dues payment.
4:4 All memberships are extended to the member’s spouse and children and allowed
one (1) vote per family.
4:5 Each paid membership
entitles member to one vote on any matter that requires a vote.
4:6 Guests of the member are the responsibility of the member and are not
affiliated with Ocean State Jeepsters.
4:7 Ocean State Jeepsters
may levy dues and assessments upon all members of the Club. The Board of
Directors shall have the authority to set the amount of dues and assessments for
all members and to modify the same from time to time. Membership dues are
non-refundable.
4:8 Membership dues will be
paid annually by members as of January 2008 and are $50.00 per member per year.
Dues will begin to renew on October each year, and must be in by October 31st.
4:8:1 Members that join the
club after October will pay dues at a pro-rated amount. Any member that joins
before March 1st will owe the full $50 amount. Any member that joins
after March first will pay the pro-rated dues of $25.
Article 5: Trail Rides
5:1 Members that wish to participate on Ocean State Jeepsters organized
trail rides must adhere to the "Wheelin' Regulations" posted on the website.
5:2 Members will abide by the Tread Lightly principals.
5:3 Members are expected to obey the orders of the trail leader to keep things
safe and running smoothly.
5:4 Unnecessary risks taking is highly frowned upon and may result in personal
injury and/or injury of other members and family.
5:5 Family members are welcome as passengers; however, they may not drive until
they have received a Learners Permit or Drivers License.
Article 6: Meetings
6:1 The Quarterly Business Meetings shall be held the first Sunday in the months
of February, May, August, and November.
6:1:1 Any cancelled
meetings will be rescheduled for a date to be determined by the board of
directors.
6:2 The Co-Presidents will set guidelines as needed to help maintain diplomacy
and civility.
6:3 General Club meetings can be determined by the gathering if five members,
with at least one officer. This criteria being met, the meeting shall be
determined a legal meeting for which Ocean State Jeepsters can conduct business.
Article 7: Voting
7:1 There will be times when a general consensus of the club will require a
membership vote.
7:2 All due paying members except founders have one vote, and are entitled and
encouraged to vote.
7:3 In the event of a tie vote, the founders shall cast the deciding vote.
7:4 Issues requiring a vote shall be decided upon at meetings or via e-mail,
which method will be decided upon by the Founders.
7:5 Votes needing immediate action can be voted on during a business meeting,
providing the required number of members are in attendance.
7:6 At any time a founder
may call for a vote to the other founders to override a vote or by-law if that
founder deems is in the best interest of the club.
7:7 The board of directors
shall consist of the 3 founders (co-presidents) and officers of the club elected
by the founders.
Article 8: Code of
Conduct
8:1 There is to be no illegal substances to be used at any club event.
8:2 No alcohol before or during trail rides, or any other event that requires
vehicle operation.
8:3 As a member of Ocean State Jeepsters you are representing the club both on
and off road. Please drive in a courteous manner as not to defame the club in
any way.
8:4 Members of Ocean State Jeepsters will respect the rights and property of
others, including members, guests, and land owners.
8:5 Members will abide by Federal, State and Local Laws at all times.
8:6 If a problem arises between members or guests, those members are to consult
a Founder.
Article 9: Disciplinary
Action
9:1 Failure to adhere to any of these by-laws is grounds for disciplinary
action.
9:2 Severity of Disciplinary actions is to be determined by Ocean State
Jeepsters founders.
9:3 Expulsions from Ocean State Jeepsters terminates membership and all
privileges with it.
9:3:1 In the event of expulsion all dues, items, and/or money donated to club
prior to expulsion will be non-refundable.
9:4 Members have the right
to appeal any disciplinary action by speaking to a founder in person, or by
submitting explanation in writing to the Founders.
Article 10: Dissolution
10:1 Upon the dissolution of Ocean State Jeepsters, the assets of the club shall
be distributed in accordance with the State of Rhode Island and Providence
Plantations laws governing such actions.
